My Approach

~

Through a Gestalt theoretical framework, I work experientially and intuitively, trusting completely in the therapeutic process. I love meeting people exactly where they are.  Every person is a unique being; therefore, there is no prescription or recipe for our work together.  I offer my clients a safe place to begin this incredible journey, a place to explore what it feels like to step into their authenticity with someone by their side.  Little by little, these glimmers of a more free and less inhibited self emerges. In therapy, there is no rush to get somewhere; instead, I see it as an unfolding...of you.

~

Working with the support of horses is an incredibly humbling experience. It's one of those things that you almost need to experience to truly understand. Most people ask me, what is horse therapy?

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a partnering with beings whose history on the planet is over 50 million years old. (Human history dates back 6 million years.) Horses offer us their wisdom in the most subtle of ways due to their very ancient survival instincts. When we interact with horses, we have the privilege of noticing our own way of being so much more clearly. I help you notice patterns you might not see or understand and increase your awareness of being with others relationally which changes us deeply.

1.

Individual Equine-Assisted Therapy

Individual equine-assisted therapy is for all ages. I come from an experiential lens which means there is no prescribed way to work with the horses ... or with you! Working one-on-one is subtle but powerful and facilitates change at your pace.

2.

Group Equine-Assisted Therapy

The dynamic that is created from a group is a powerful tool. Groups provide connection, opportunities for deep reflection and a window through which we witness our own change.

3.

Nature-Based Therapy

Mother Nature is a well known healer. Working together in an outdoor setting gifts us with the healing she provides. I work with clients in 2 locations.

4.

Traditional
Counseling

Traditional counseling is structured in 60-minute sessions in a private, comfortable space in Boulder. I offer in-person sessions, Telehealth sessions or a combination of both.

Testimonials
“I had 12 years of therapy for depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. So I doubted equine therapy could make a difference. Working with Julie and Bob peeled back a layer of attachment wounding I didn’t know I had. I stood in silent exposure  - beautiful and embraced. Equine therapy allowed me to start fresh with a new experience of myself and a real foundation for relationship to other people.”
